Dulce

A Film for Conservation International

Dulce is a powerful example of how film can be used to raise awareness and inspire action for an organization’s mission. The staying power of Dulce and films like it demonstrate how stories have a power to travel on their own.

Film Synopsis: In the coastal village of La Ensenada, Colombia, where digging for shellfish is a way of life, everyone must learn to swim eventually — even little Dulce. But as the effects of climate change, marked by swelling tides and shrinking coastlines, begin to threaten the village’s livelihood, the carefree swimming lessons led by Dulce’s mother take on a sense of urgency.

Impact and Achievments

  • Immediate and Long-Term Value: Even years after its initial release, Dulce continues to be acquired for events and screenings to this day. And, while not solely attributable to Dulce, in the year after its release Conservation International saw a 50% increase in donor giving.
  • Global  Recognition:  Dulce was showcased at more than 100 festivals including Sundance, TIFF, Tokyo… It won BEST FILM at more than 10 festivals across the world. These screenings provided hundreds of opportunities of Conservation International to connect in person with viewers as well by sending organization ambassadors to festivals..
  • Earned Media: Dulce garnered attention from major media outlets, It was licensed by The New York Times Ops-Docs and was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick, both of which helped it to garner more than 1 million views online and provided Conservation International with multiple outreach campaign opportunities to grow support for their mission.
  • Educational Reach: Dulce has been acquired by over 100 cultural and educational institutions, including major universities and museums around the world  who have paid to acquire screening rights for educational purposes, both earning back the film’s initial production budget and extending the films impact to an even wider audience outside the non profit sector
